Evening Prayer: December 13th

God of Glory, as this precious day comes to a close, accept my thanks and praise for another day of life. Give me the gift of a quiet rest and a calm heart. Let your strong arms surround me, your eternal love enfold me, your watchful eye guard me all night long. As the shadows of the night surround and envelop me, I am reminded that night is not gloomy to you, and I am glad. Be with me through the night. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Hymn: Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus by Charles Wesley

1. Come, thou long expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.
Israel’s strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.

2. Born thy people to deliver,
born a child and yet a King,
born to reign in us forever,
now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal spirit
rule in all our hearts alone;
by thine all sufficient merit,
raise us to thy glorious throne.

Daily Scripture Passage: Isaiah 12:2-6

Isaiah 12:2-6 (ESV)

“Behold, God is my salvation;
    I will trust, and will not be afraid;
for the Lord God is my strength and my song,
    and he has become my salvation.”

With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. And you will say in that day:

“Give thanks to the Lord,
    call upon his name,
make known his deeds among the peoples,
    proclaim that his name is exalted.

“Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously;
    let this be made known in all the earth.
Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,
    for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.”
