Evening Prayer: January 7th

O Light Eternal, I thank you for the light of this day and for the vesper light that now casts its shadows across your earth. Illumine for us our hearts that we may see those places where our sin prevented us from living into your will and show us the ways in which your glory shone through us as we lived as your people in the world today. Forgive us for where our path was not your path and strengthen us that we may allow you to continue to shape us through the experiences of this day for your good purposes.

As this night descends, we ask that your Holy Spirit would enfold us lest we be overtaken by your enemy. We pray that you would give us rest and that you would renew within us a right spirit that tomorrow, if it be your will, we may wake just that much closer to being as your Son, Jesus, has called us – holy. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit we pray. Amen.

Hymn: Children of the Heavenly King by John Cennik

1 Children of the heavenly King,
As we journey let us sing;
Sing our Savior’s worthy praise,
Glorious in His works and ways,
Glorious in His works and ways.

2 We are traveling home to God,
In the way our fathers trod;
They are happy now, and we
Soon their happiness shall see,
Soon their happiness shall see.

3 Fear not, brethren; joyful stand
On the borders of our land;
Jesus Christ, our Father’s Son,
Bids us undismayed go on,
Bids us undismayed go on.

4 Lord, obediently we’ll go,
Gladly leaving all below;
Only Thou our leader be,
And we still will follow Thee,
And we still will follow Thee.

Daily Scripture Passage: Ephesians 5:1-2

Ephesians 5:1-2 (ESV)

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
